Celebration of European Day of Languages - 8th Primary School of Thebes Greece

 The European Day of Languages is a celebration of the amazing number and variety of languages spoken across Europe. Schools and organisations mark the event every year with a European languages day to promote language learning and to celebrate the linguistic and cultural diversity of Europe. The European Day of Languages is celebrated annually on the 26th of September. Students from 8th Primary School of Thebes celebrated this big event. We explained the aims and history of the European Day of Languages and played fun quizzes on key information about the event, different languages, and flags. We talked about the importance of learning a foreign language. We learned about 'loanwords' which appear in different languages, and thought about ways to identify meaning. We decided to create  a lovely poster featuring the word 'talk to me!' written in a number of different European languages. Ice breaking activity - 8th Primary School of Thebes Greece

  My 5th graders from the 8th Primary School of Thebes Greece  expressed their expectations at the beginning of the project,  by participating in the following Ice breaking activity. They clicked on the Word Cloud link and wrote words that answered the questions:  “Which is the main value of all people in the world?"  We believe it will be a very enjoyable project.

  Gratitude is defined as the feeling or expression of thankfulness and appreciation toward yourself, others, people, places, or things. Gratitude isn’t always an emotion that everyone is able to express. Students may need direction and guidance from their teachers when it comes to discussing gratitude. Studies show that when students practise expressing their feelings, they have higher levels of optimism, increased life satisfaction, and decreased negative feelings. Additionally, students who regularly express gratitude appreciate close relationships and feel better about their life and school.   Some gratitude-filled activities that I used to teach students about gratitude and to practice giving thanks: The gratitude jar :  Students of 8th Primary School Thebes started to have a gratitude jar in our classroom.
